This onsite program will focus on learning the basics of Jazz Funk.
Students will learn the basics of this dance style, a super-set of Jazz and influenced by the Hip Hop dance style.
Jazz funk is a subgenre of jazz that incorporates elements of funk music, a style that originated in the 1960s and 1970s and is characterized by its heavy use of syncopated rhythms, electric bass and guitar, and use of the backbeat. Jazz funk typically features a strong, driving beat and complex, syncopated rhythms and also incorporates elements of R&B, Soul, and funk music. It also often features improvisation and soloing, which are key elements of jazz music.
Emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and was popularized by jazz musicians such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, who began to incorporate elements of funk and R&B into their music. The genre's popularity reached its peak in the 1970s, and it has since influenced many other genres of music, including acid jazz, neo soul, and hip hop.
Jazz funk is known for its focus on groove and rhythm, and it is often played in a danceable and upbeat style. It has become a staple of disco, funk, and soul music, and is still being played and enjoyed by many today.
