Surfing is a sport in which a person, known as a surfer, rides a board on the crest, face, and curl of a wave in the ocean. The objective of the sport is to ride the wave as far as possible and to perform various maneuvers on the board such as turns, cutbacks, and aerial tricks. The surfer uses the power and energy of the wave to propel themselves along the surface of the water. There are different styles of surfing, such as longboarding and shortboarding, and different types of waves, such as point breaks and reef breaks, which can affect the surfer's technique and the type of board used. Surfing originated in Polynesia and has become a popular recreational and competitive activity around the world.
