Did you know skateboarding was a sport created by surfers who wanted something to do when the waves were low? Skateboarding was first invented in the 1950s in California. Some surfers had the idea to transfer the feeling of riding waves onto the street, these dudes were called “asphalt surfers”.

The Venice Beach area is in fact where skateboarding first became really popular in 1970 by the Z-Boys. Who not only were surfers but also avid skateboarders that used their boards to imitate popular surfing moves and create their own tricks.
