STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Learning in STEM integrates these four disciplines into a cohesive learning model based on real-world applications. Rather than teach these subjects separately, STEM combines them into a connected learning paradigm based on real-world scenarios. Here's a bit more about what each component entails: Science: This involves a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. It fosters curiosity and investigation about the natural world. Technology: This involves the usage and knowledge of tools, techniques, systems or methods of organization. It covers everything from computers and software to simple technological processes used in various industries. Engineering: This is the application of scientific and mathematical principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes. It focuses on problem-solving, designing solutions, and turning ideas into reality. Mathematics: This involves the study of numbers, shapes, and patterns. It is a fundamental discipline that is used in a lot of the analysis, reasoning, and planning that's done in science, technology, and engineering. The goal of STEM education is to prepare students for the evolving demands of the 21st-century workforce. It aims to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning, and collaboration skills among students. It also emphasizes innovation and encourages students to apply their learning to solve real-world problems.

I grew up in Cambodia, then I attended an international boarding high school in New York. I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology from UC Irvine and now I’m getting a Master’s in Education Policy in the same school. I love teaching kids because there’s nothing more fulfilling than to share and express my knowledge and experience that could help children navigate through their life journey.

Besides my kids, my biggest accomplishment has been the artist collective The Oakland Mind. Over the years we have created spaces for artists, brought awareness to human trafficking, and even taught hip-hop at several colleges. As an organization we utilize hip hop art to explore what a culture can be and use our knowledge to raise funds to support sustainable actions within the community.

Aurora Gutierrez Cantu Kupka

I grew up on the east coast and did my undergraduate degree at Florida State University. I then moved to Strasbourg, France and lived there for 3 years to obtain a master's degree. In February 2023 I came back to the U.S. and currently live in San Jose, working as an electrical engineer.

During my undergrad, I was a tutor at my school and did freelance tutoring on the side. I find teaching to be an intellectually and emotionally stimulating experience. My favorite aspect is the problem solving required to convey information and lead the student to their own conclusion. It's extremely rewarding for me to see their confidence grow. 

One particularity of my teaching method is my emphasis on interactivity. Anybody with minimal public speaking skills can stand in front of a class and lecture students, but from my first and second-hand experience, this method of instruction is seldom of much efficacy. I believe that effective learning stems from an individual’s own effort, and through a trial and error process.

Improv acting, also known as improvisational theatre or simply improv, is a form of theatre in which most or all of what is performed is created spontaneously by the performers, without a script or predetermined plan. In other words, improv actors create scenes, characters, and stories on the spot, based on audience suggestions or prompts. Improv acting involves a great deal of creativity, spontaneity, and collaboration among the performers. It requires quick thinking, good listening skills, and the ability to make split-second decisions in response to what is happening in the moment. Improv actors often work in groups or teams, and they must be able to trust and support each other in order to create cohesive scenes and stories. Improv acting can take many forms, ranging from short games or exercises to longer, more elaborate performances. It is often used as a form of comedy, but it can also be used to explore more serious or dramatic themes. Improv actors may perform in front of live audiences, on television or film, or in other settings such as corporate events or workshops. Overall, improv acting is about creating something out of nothing, using only your imagination, your wit, and your ability to work together with others. It can be a fun, challenging, and rewarding form of theatre that requires both skill and spontaneity.

As a child, I had the chance to have the opportunity to discover ballet. It created a new world, where I could explore my own imagination through movement. As a professional dancer, I like to communicate and share how to create a dialogue with the music using movement and imagination. 

My strong ballet training in France, followed by my European touring career as ballerina, offered me the tools to an understanding of the specificity of Ballet technique. Working for an Opera, I developed a high ethical standards which I feel is important for this position. I always come on time, communicate clearly and project a professional image. 

My passion for teaching reflects through my communication. I always come with a smile and bring a fun and positive energy to the room. My name is Emma Halleen, and I have been dancing for nearly 20 years. I began my career performing with companies such as Twin Cities Ballet and Collide Theatrical Jazz Company. I’ve danced in music videos with pop star Pink! and in TV shows such American Horror Stories. I’ve taught ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and hip hop for five years at a variety of dance programs in the Twin Cities and Los Angeles. 
As a teacher, I adopt a holistic approach to dance class. As you teach a student a dance move and watch as they learn to master it, you start to realize that teaching goes beyond the execution of a movement. It’a about imparting important life skills. Sierra Don (She/They) is a Dancer, Director, Choreographer, and Professor established in San Francisco and emerging in Los Angeles, CA. Don earned her Bachelor’s in Theatre Arts - Dance with a minor in Child Development at California State University, Fresno. She earned her MFA in Performance Theory & Choreography at Mills College in Oakland, CA.  Sierra became the recipient of the Teaching Assistant Award for her teaching pedagogy focus as well as the chosen choreographer to represent both Mills and CSU, Fresno at American College Dance Association. After graduating she launched her own multidisciplinary dance collective focused on providing a healing platform for trauma in women while celebrating diversity (Mogli’s Movers in 2018).
Since, Sierra Don has trained professionally with Jose Limon Co. and many more while expanding on her career in education as Contemporary Dance Professor at Hussian College, Site Director at American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), and Production Manager at Learning by Design. Sierra recently earned her teaching credenitals for K - High School and teaches all throughout West LA.

My name is Dani. I am 29 years old and I was raised here in LA County . Dance has always been a part of my life and I've been teaching for about around a decade. Teaching is a calling for me because I enjoy connecting with students, helping them feel empowered and confident, cultivating an environment that allows them to express themselves, and guiding them to unearth their leadership qualities. When students have the opportunity to learn choreography, understand musicality, and have enough time to feel comfortable in a dance it allows them to tap in to an invigorating confidence that I believe is specific to dance. It's similar to the sensation you feel when you finish a book, complete a puzzle, or finally learn a new song on an instrument. Having the instrument be your body can be a scary thing for a lot of students! However, if they are able to set aside their fears of looking/feeling silly, they will find that freedom. This leads to a greater bond between students as well as they traverse new challenges together! It is so important to experience joy inside of the experience.  Teaching from this perspective is what makes me stand out as an instructor.

My oldest is an honors student with all A’s and she has a successful career as a child actor all talk by me and my wife those skills are now like riding a bike and I can take them to transition teaching wherever I go.

My academy only has cream of the crop instructors. For instance, Micah is one of the world's renowned 25 top dancers. He performs at SF Opera and Dallas Opera to name a few. He has created movements for James Cameron in Avatar and has extensive experience in teaching growing up around his mother's childcare, teaching at my music & dance studio to toddlers to elementary students, elementary to high school students in LA County. All the schools he has taught at request him to return. He wants to offer dance/theater to all children equitably as he was given the opportunity at a young age as an Angeleno at SouthEast Symphony Association on campus of the LA Center for Enriched Studies as well as LA's Best at Bancroft Middle School. Improv works best when participants bring themselves. Their stories, their lives, and their experiences are all valid and enough. Through humor, we can also learn about the human condition, even if that is shining light on the dirty parts. We encourage folks to bring up topics that may be unknown or confusing (like traditions or holidays) from what is seen as "the standard." This helps level the playing field and keeps everyone on their toes. 

All our instructional sessions have a system called The Parking Lot. While there may be a handful of universally accepted topics that are off-limits there might be some lesser-known issues. Every classroom is made up of those in the room. If anything is impactful or triggering for a participant, they can simply state that they can speak up and put the topic in The Parking Lot. This does not mean the folks in the scene did anything wrong, but we will move forward restarting the exercise, avoiding the impactful topic, and learning how to be kinder to those around us.

I love discovering if they want to hear about vocal resonance and nasal muscle isolation, or "the moment before" and how Alexander Technique effects presentation and stage presence. Show me a group of kids who wants to show their parents what they've learned, and I'll spend as much time they want teaching them to produce performance art.

As a Belgian American woman, I grew up in the multicultural setting of Brussels with family members and friends from North, Central, and West Africa. From early on, this cross-cultural upbringing allowed me to embody and understand diverse cultural codes and values, which inspired my early career as one of the first female professional breakdancers. Since moving to the U.S., I have had the opportunity to practice and research various Urban, Afro-diasporic dance, and Wellness practices while teaching and performing. I am now a leader in dance, culture, and wellness in my neighborhood of South Los Angeles teaching in the community as an artist and activist.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;	After my initial Bboy/Bgirl training in the streets of Brussels, the experience of participating in numerous advanced trainings in renowned dance institutions around the world (Ecole des Sables/Senegal, ROSAS/Belgium, Tempo/Jordan, Harmonic/France, Crusaders for Peace/Liberia, Illadelph/USA, Djoniba/USA), alongside my academic training as a dance scholar, has given me a deeper understanding of how dance and culture connect on a local and global level. As an undergraduate student at UCLA's World Arts and Cultures Department, I was awarded a full scholarship from the Dean of the School of the Arts and Architecture, and two consecutive ArtsBridge grants, which allowed me to engage local communities through dance. I also hold a M.A. from NYU Performance Studies Program (2010) where I was the recipient of a Tisch Tuition Scholarship. During my graduate studies, I focused on Post-Colonial and Critical Theory, as well as Urban Cultures and Dance Studies. Most recently, between 2021 and 2022, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training (200 RYT) and AFPA Pilates Certification. Drawing on these experiences, my current work as a dance and wellness educator enables me to see the interconnectedness between the artistic and wellness practices of various Hip Hop, Contemporary and Afro Diasporic Dances, Yoga and Pilates, their healing effect on students and practitioners, and their potential for community building.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;	 My experience in developing dance curriculum started in 2005 when I was selected by the European Union to help develop dance programs in European Universities. The following year, I was awarded the ArtsBridge Scholarship at UCLA, which funded and supervised me to develop my Dance and Global Consciousness program. My K-12 curriculum stems from urban dance culture and bridges connections with cultural and artistic practices of the world. Over the last eighteen years, this curriculum has been successfully implemented at various K-12 institutions and colleges from Los Angeles, New York, Brussels and Dakar. In addition, while teaching in schools, I have helped numerous dance artists develop their own curricula with a focus on Urban, and Afro-diasporic dances practices. Between 2017-2020, I had the honor of being selected amongst a small group of dance educators to come together yearly at USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance for a conference focusing on Hip Hop and Urban Dance Education. Between 2018-2021, being a Founding Educator/Dance Lecturer at the Geffen Academy at UCLA was a lifetime learning experience that enabled me to have the tools and skills to start my own space, PiYoDa Flow, where I cater with my team to the BIPOC community of South Los Angeles. Finally, post pandemic, teaching online for almost two years has given me the tools to be ready to take on any hybrid or remote learning class format.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Erica Bitton

I'm a voice, dialect, and dialogue coach that got into the field through the love of languages and performance. I loved the idea of inventing a language for a production, à la Lord of the Rings. I trained in linguistics and Russian language at university while maintaining an interest in performance through improv comedy. I went to London to train in Voice Studies at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In London, I started coaching for Amazon's English AI Voices, coaching the VO for about 20 different 'Alexa' voices. Most recently I've served as an on-set dialogue coach for a German-made TV show called "One Trillion Dollars" and designed a language for a subset of characters for the upcoming "Indiana Jones and the Sacred Circle Video Game". I have worked with people of all ages in many different contexts. I enjoy the work I get to help people connect themselves with what and how they say their intentions, and that connection can contribute significantly to a performer's experience. I stand out because my education and experience has been so eclectic in both the American and British method. I've got an appreciation for humor and pragmatic approach to helping people. Plus, my improv experience has equipped me with the courage and confidence to pivot and find something new in a different way.

My creative curiosity has taken me to the South of France, Italy, Jamaica, and the Cannes Film Festival, twice!

Soccer, also known as football in most countries, is a sport in which two teams of eleven players each compete to score goals by kicking a ball into the opposing team's goal. The main objective of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins. Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world and is played professionally, as well as recreationally, by people of all ages and skill levels. It requires physical fitness, skill, teamwork and strategy to play well. There are various professional leagues and tournaments around the world, including the FIFA World Cup, which is held every four years and is considered the most prestigious international soccer tournament.
